ALERT BULLETINS

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office has received information from the Texas Attorney Generals Office in Austin of a scam that has been plaguing citizens across the U.S.  What this scam consists of is a person on the telephone calls you and in an official and threatening voice advises you they are from either the IRS or the Banking Commission and a warrant has been issued for your arrest for failing to pay enough taxes.  They then tell you that you can resolve this by giving them your banking information where they can deduct this over the phone.  They will also ask you to verify your Social Security Number and sometimes drivers license number so they can verify the information with their records.

You should never give any of your personal information, bank account numbers, social security numbers, your drivers license number or any other sensitive information over the phone.  The Banking Commission and or IRS does not attempt to obtain information of this nature over the phone.  If you suspect a scam, Contact your Local Law Enforcement Agency and report it.
